Accessibility statement

Our position

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across this website. That is the standard generally referenced for public-facing sites, and it is what we have built toward rather than something we have had independently certified.

We are stating what we have actually done rather than making a blanket claim of full conformance, because the second would be easy to write and harder to stand behind.

What has been done

• Colour contrast checked numerically on every text and interface element against its background, with the aim of meeting or exceeding AA ratios
• A skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on every page, so keyboard users can bypass the header and navigation
• Keyboard navigation throughout, including the services menu, which opens on focus as well as hover and closes on Escape
• Visible focus indicators on interactive elements
• Semantic structure — one H1 per page, ordered headings, landmark regions, and lists marked up as lists
• Descriptive link text throughout; no "click here" or "read more" anywhere on the site
• Alternative text on every image, and decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology
• Labelled form fields, each with a visible associated label
• Reduced-motion support — transitions are disabled where the operating system requests it
• Text that reflows and remains readable when zoomed or on small screens
• Sized images and icons so layout does not shift as the page loads

Known limitations

We would rather list these than pretend they do not exist.

The embedded map on the contact section is a third-party Google component and its accessibility is outside our control. The same address and directions are available as plain text on the same page, and by phone.

Some content is dense. Several guides are long and technical because the subject requires it. We have used headings and lists to make them navigable, but they remain substantial documents.

We have not commissioned a formal independent audit. If we do, we will say so here.
